For the Love of Literature

Every summer for the last eight years the Althorp Estate has hosted an increasingly successful literary festival which has hosted authors including William Dalrymple, Simon Sebag Montefiore and Peter Carey.

Althorp is a perfect setting for a literary festival, with acres of grassy lawn to picnic under the summer sun and magnificent interiors in which to listen to the featured writers.

At this year’s Althorp Literary Festival Earl Spencer’s will give a talk  Althorp: A Personal View which will give a unique insight into his home, and the home of the Spencer family for the last 500 years. Althorp Living History by Theodore Alexander is proud to sponsor this event and we look forward to sharing more information closer to the day.

Althorp: A Personal View is on Friday 10th June 2011: 12.00pm to 1.00pm

Charles Spencer is the author a number of historical works, including 'Prince Rupert: The Last Cavalier'

Last year Theodore Alexander sponsored Bill Bryson and his (then) newly published book ‘At Home‘, an encyclopaedic wandering through the history of the house.

The New York Times has an excellent review by Dominique Browning of this informative, witty and fascinating book.
