TA to Launch Michael Berman’s ‘Califolio’ Collection at High Point Market

Theodore Alexander is to launch a new collection by interior designer Michael Berman at the upcoming April High Point Market. ‘Califolio’ by Michael Berman for Theodore Alexander is a whole home collection.

“Drawing on themes that are synonymous with the spirit and design of urban coastal living; from the every day access to beaches, mountains, deserts and city dwelling, I have assembled a diverse combination of designs and original finishes,” writes Berman. “Michael Berman for Theodore Alexander is the essence of the casual living we have here on the Pacific coast. It conjures up imagery of Indoor-Outdoor living and the restraint of ornamentation and the eclectic use of materials in California.”

The collection includes clean lines, modern shapes, softly tailored upholstery and well scaled occasional pieces accompanied by unique finishes and a color palette, which communicates the light airy style of southern California living.  ‘Califolio’ is much like its inspiration, a perfect mix of glamour and simplicity. “To dress the collection we’ve selected lush textiles that cool the skin, warm the heart and dazzle the eyes,” adds Berman.

Signature items include the Collins Dresser in streamlined solid oak, the Balboa Bookcase in ultra-suede, lacquer and oak, and the Flint Table.

“I love the way the Flint Table brings an organic element to the line. I’ve always loved the concept of wabi-sabi and the combination or textured wire brushed oak in a stain we call ‘Sandalwood’, along with the ‘foundry’ bronze finish on the base, keep this piece humble and modern, “ says Berman. He continues, “Each piece is designed to be used individually or in a suite of furnishings.  There is a thread that runs through this collection that incorporates my modernist influence and credo:  restraint, quiet luxury and effortless comfort.”

The New York Times Shops for Dining Tables at Theodore Alexander

Event Planner Jung Lee stopped by Theodore Alexander’s showroom at the New York Design Center last week and picked out our Newman Table as a stylish dining table option for the New York Times.

The simple, clean lines and the oval-shape swirl mahogany veneer top make the Newman a versatile performer that will never go out of style, Ms. Lee said. Equipped with a leaf that can be stored underneath the top when not in use, it offers expandability and convenience, she added, and is an ideal shape for topping with a tablecloth. Though it would be a shame to cover up the delicate, curvy legs, she said: “I love those legs.”
